Using omic approaches (proteomic and metabolomic analyses) we have started to dissect the role of either soluble factors and Extracellular Vesicles (EV) derived from the mesenchymal stromal cells considering them future advanced therapeutic medicinal product to be applied in several clinical fields. Indeed, in a preclinical model of neuropathic pain in mice, we have shown the immunomodulatory potential of adipose derived Mesenchymal Stromal Cells: both the systemic administration of human ASCs and their Secretome induce a reduction of allodynia and hyperalgesia restoring a correct pro/antinflammatory cytokine balance (in collaboration with Prof. P. Sacerdote, Università degli Studi di Milano). The function of soluble factors and EV present in the Secretome of Adipose derived stem cells have been characterized (see publication list) and some studies are still in progress.
