Prof. Giovanni Lombardi, Ph.D.

Bio

Prof. Giovanni Lombardi is the director of the Laboratory of Experimental Biochemistry & Molecular Biology at the IRCCS Istituto Ortopedico Galeazzi (Milan, Italy). He is an Associate Professor (Dr. Hab.) of Health Sciences at Gdansk University of Physical Education (Gdańsk, Poland) and an Adjunct Professor of the Laboratory Medicine at Vita-Salute San Raffaele University (Milano, Italia). He received a Master’s degree in Medical Biotechnology & Molecular Medicine in 2006 and his Ph.D. in Biochemistry in 2009, at the Università degli Studi di Milano (Milan, Italy).

His research interests are endocrine function of the muscle-skeletal tissue, molecular biomarkers of muscle-skeletal functions, whole-body cryotherapy, effects of exercise on inflammation and metabolism, pre-analytical phase of biomarkers measurement.

He has the Abilitazione Scientifica Nazionale ((ASN) – National Scientific Qualification) from the Italian Ministry of Education & Research in “Clinical Biochemistry & Clinical Molecular Biology” (Biochimica Clinica e Biologia Molecolare Clinica, 05/E3, II Fascia from 2018-10-05 to 2024-10-05) and “Physical Exercise & Sport Sciences” (Scienze dell’Esercizio Fisico e dello Sport, 06/N2, II Fascia from 2018-08-29 to 2024-08-29 ). 

He has the Stopnia Naukowego Doktora Habilitowanego (Dr. hab., National Scientific Qualification) from Centralna Komisja do Spraw Stopni i Tytułów (Warsaw, Poland) in “Health Sciences” (Nauk o Zdrowiu).

Prof. Lombardi has the following roles: coordinator of the study group on “Clinical Biochemistry and Metabolism of Bone and Muscle Tissues” of the Italian Society of Clinical Biochemistry & Clinical Molecular Biology (SIBioC); vice-president of the working group on “Whole-Body Cryotherapy” of the International Institute of Refrigeration (IIR); active member of the working group on “Vitamin D standardization program” of the International Federation of Clinical Chemistry (IFCC); member of the Italian Society of Osteoporosis, Mineral Metabolism, and Diseases of the Skeleton (SIOMMMS); member of the Forum in Bone & Mineral Research, technical-scientific consultant for Sapio Life S.r.l.; scientific advisor for Dorelan® B&T S.p.A; grant reviewer for the Polish National Science Center; review editor for Frontiers in Endocrinology; advisory board member of the Journal of Sport Sciences; and editorial board member of the Journal of Science in Sport & Exercise. He is author of 94 papers published in international peer-reviewed journals and 2 book chapters. He participated as an invited speaker in more than 20 international and national congresses and meetings.
